A moment captured on film.

Otterburn, NorthumberlandThe peaceful village of Otterburn, Northumberland, the start of a sunny autumn day, a lorry has pulled up at a roadside petrol station and the driver is engaged in conversation with the proprietor as the tank is filled, behind the lorry a local is taking the dog for an early morning walk; having just crossed the bridge over Otter Burn a stream from which the village gets it’s name. The rooms in The Percy Arms Hotel opposite have been given an airing by the hotel staff. A moment in time captured by the photographer. This road leads up from Newcastle towards the Scottish Border and on to Edinburgh so will be busy later on in the day.         Otterburn (detail)

The Garage has gone but the cottages and the Inn have been redeveloped as this Google image below shows.                                                                                                         Otterburn

‘Old Postcards’ as well as family photographs are always worth a second glance, they contain images which can never be replaced. Digital images are fine for the moment but where  will this image on Google be in 60 or 70 years time. There are still photographs and postcards out there and they should be treasured for the wealth of information portrayed.

Ingoldmells, a trip down memory lane.

We had a holiday in Ingoldmells in June 1992, an unbelievable 25 years ago. At that time it was a fairly quiet holiday resort on the East Coast in Lincolnshire just a few miles north of Skegness. I took all the following photographs in the morning, starting outside the camp and walking down to Sea Lane which runs from the village east to the promenade. The more recent photographs are from Google Maps.

This is the main entrance to Coastfields Caravan site in June 1992.                                        INGOLDMELLS-COASTFIELD CARAVAN PARK-JUNE 1992

This is the same entrance today.                                                                                                         Coastfields

This is a view down Roman Bank towards Sea Lane in June 1992.                                           INGOLDMELLS-ROMAN BANK -JUNE 1992

Here is the same view today, note the rides in Fantasy Island on the horizon.                       Roman Road

Now we come to the area of greatest change, Sea Lane, here is my photograph taken in June 1992, looking west towards the traffic lights at the junction of Roman Way.                 INGOLDMELLS-SEA LANE-JUNE 1992 (1)

Here is the same view now.                                                                                                                 Sea Lane

The only building still standing in my original photograph is now a Spar Supermarket which is on the other side of the crossroads and not visible in the photo above.   INGOLDMELLS-SEA LANE-JUNE 1992 (1)

Spar Roman Bank

This photograph was taken at Sea Lane at the junction with Roman Way, view west towards the village.                                                                                                                               INGOLDMELLS-SEA LANE-JUNE 1992 (2)

And the same view now, buildings on the left replaced by Fantasy Island.                             Sea Lane Roman Bank

And now my last photograph of my walk. This is Sea Lane view west just down from the junction with Roman Way.                                                                                                                    INGOLDMELLS-EASTGATE CENTRE-JUNE 1992

Here is the same view today.                                                                                                               Sea Lane (West)

Hope you have enjoyed my walk down memory lane. Ingoldmells will continue to grow and change in the years to come but in the past 25 years one thing has remained completely unchanged, my relationship with The Lord Jesus, He is forever constant and unchangeable.

Down on the Hop Farm

These faded photographs from the early part of the 1900’s give an insight of life on Seabrook Brothers Hop Farm in Tonbridge Kent. The cart loaded up for delivery, the farmhouse, and the farmers children.                                                                                                                        seabrook-hop-farm-1
