I have been collecting picture postcards for many years and was pleased to find a near intact Album at an Antiques Fair in Bromley. The album was over 100 years old and falling to pieces but the cards were still together and most were from ‘Auntie Ida’ to her Young nieces Elsie and Nellie and nephew Charlie. The cards were sent on Birthdays, Easter and Christmas and other cards to Nellie who kept this album. The oldest card was posted in 1906 and the last card posted in 1916. The family were living just outside the village of Brookland near Romney Marsh to 1910 then moved to Brenzett in 1911 a couple of miles away. Both homes were named and I managed to find them on Google Maps. Their first home was ‘Barling House’ in Chubbs Lane, Brookland, and this image is from Google.
Their next home was ‘Clifftonville’ in Grove Lane, near Brenzett. There are only two houses in Grove Lane but finally managed to trace it via the internet, this is the image from Google.
I was so pleased to find these images, one has to imagine what the family circumstances were; a later postcard from 1927 shows that a Mrs Sims was still at this address in Grove Lane. Nellie’s cards were from her Aunties Ida, Mary, Emma and Annie and her Uncle Jack and here are some from her Album.
